Prep Cook
Job Summary
The Prep Cook is responsible for preparing ingredients and assisting in basic cooking tasks to support kitchen staff in delivering high-quality food to guests. This role involves washing, chopping, measuring, and organizing ingredients, as well as maintaining cleanliness and order in the kitchen. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, efficient, and have a strong foundation in basic culinary skills.
Responsibilities
- Wash, peel, and chop vegetables, meats, and other ingredients according to recipes and chef instructions.
- Measure and prepare ingredients for line cooks and chefs, ensuring readiness for each service.
- Organize and maintain storage of ingredients and supplies, monitoring for freshness and quality.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in food preparation areas and equipment, following health and safety standards.
- Assist with assembling and plating simple dishes under the guidance of chefs as needed.
- Support kitchen staff with additional tasks, including restocking and clean-up after service.
Skills and Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift light to moderate weights.
- Good communication skills and a willingness to learn.
Preferred Skills
- Previous experience as a prep cook or in a kitchen setting.
- Familiarity with food safety practices and proper handling of kitchen tools.
- Culinary training or coursework is a plus.
